We provide a wide range of coverage options, and most trucking operations require at least Auto Liability. Here's a few of the most common coverages:
• Automobile liability
• Physical damage (collision and/or comprehensive)
• Cargo insurance
• General liability for truckers
• Trailer interchange or Non-Owned trailer coverage
• Reefer breakdown
The amount of coverage depends on factors like the type of cargo you haul, and federal/state requirements. For example, the FMCSA requires a minimum of $750,000 in liability coverage for most commercial trucks, but many businesses opt for higher limits, such as $1 million or more. If you haul for certain businesses, they might also require extra protection, like General Liability.
Yes! We work with markets that specialize in insuring new drivers and businesses. While premiums may be higher initially, we can help you find cost-effective solutions and guide you on how to lower premiums over time.
It varies depending on many factors. However, you should expect to pay, on average, between $10,000-16,000 per truck per year for the basic coverage package (Liability, Physical Damage, and Cargo) as an experienced driver. Liability alone is the primary cost of the insurance, which typically costs 70-90% of that total yearly premium. If you have a clean driving record, clean inspections, and no losses or claims made for a few years, you might pay a less than average. If you are a new driver (less than 2 years commercial driving experience), have any driving violations, have any previous claims, have any DOT inspection points, you will likely pay more than average depending on the severity.
Once I have all your information, I can typically get quotes from our “standard” markets within 1-2 business days. However, if you have high-risk factors or a very clean record and fit into a “specialized” market, getting a quote could take 1-2 weeks. A specialty market typically has better coverage and/or a slightly better premium.
• Driving History & Experience: Clean records and experienced drivers result in lower premiums; violations or accidents increase costs. New commercial drivers (less than 2 years) will increase costs. Previous at-fault claims will increase your premium. Multiple claims in as many years can likely result in extremely high premiums, or outright declination of coverage.
• Type of Cargo Hauled: High-risk cargo like hazardous materials may require additional coverage and higher premiums.
• Distance Traveled: Local routes typically cost less than interstate or long-haul operations.
• Vehicle Type & Age: Newer trucks with advanced safety features often qualify for discounts compared to older models when it comes to Liability coverage. However, the more expensive the truck, the more it'll cost to cover physical damage of that truck.
• Inspection Reports: Regularly passing DOT inspections can lower your rates by demonstrating safety compliance. Any violations will increase your premium, and possibly result in declination of coverage.
